The lack of available workers has plagued businesses throughout the US for the past several years, and it appears that we will continue to face this issue locally well into 2022. To assist our businesses and organizations that deal with this problem daily, there is work underway to put together an event that hopefully will provide employers with a program to identify potential employees entering the workforce upon graduation from high school.
The White County Economic Development Organization, along with Indian Trails Career Cooperative, and representatives from our four White County High Schools are planning a program in April that will bring seniors and selective juniors together with key businesses/organizations that will allow these groups (students and employers) to meet face-to-face and learn of the vast opportunities that exist in White County. And, to that end, we are calling the event “Back Home Again in White County”.
The date we have selected for this event is Thursday, April 14th, and will be held at the Brandywine Convention Center in Monticello. Our “committee” is still outlining the logistics surrounding this event, but the purpose of this email is to determine if this is something that you wish to have your business/organization participate in. If so, please mark your calendar as a “save the date” and RSVP your intentions to Debbie Conover at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
It is anticipated that we could have as many as 350-400 seniors and selective juniors from Twin Lakes, Frontier, North White and Tri County high schools attend and meet directly with your representatives. We hope to have between 50-75 organizations participate. This is a tremendous opportunity to “tell your story” as to why the students should remain and work in White County and make decent wages at your place of employment. Your commitment is to only spend a day interacting with our workforce of tomorrow, and we will even feed your team lunch! Can’t beat that!

Instructions for Painting your Rain Barrel
Use outdoor acrylics to paint your rain barrel. You will need to prime and top coat your plastic barrel.
- Clean the exterior surface with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water.
- Use a fine grade sandpaper to “rough up” the surface of the barrel. (This helps the paint adhere to the plastic barrel.)
- Vacuum the barrel’s surface, then rinse barrel with clean water (static may try to hold the fine dust) and dry with a lint free cloth (or leave it in the sun to bake)
- Apply at least one coat of outdoor primer. Primer must be allowed to dry per manufacturer’s instructions.
- Paint barrel and allow the paint to dry completely.
- Apply two coats of polyurethane. Allow the polyurethane to dry between coats.

The City of Monticello and the Monticello Fire Department are excited to announce the creation of the Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program also known as the Community Paramedicine Program.
The Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program fills the gaps that are prevalent in healthcare, especially in more rural and aging communities. It works to meet the quadruple aim for healthcare which includes:
- Better outcomes
- Improved patient experience
- Improved clinician experience
- Lower healthcare costs
- Increased access and communication with primary care physicians for the medically underserved
- Help with chronic disease management
- Prioritize preventive care and follow up care for high-risk members of our community
- Assist patient communication with their provider
- Post hospital discharge instruction compliance
- Monitor vital signs
- Provide cardiac monitoring
- Diabetes management
- Fall risk assessment & prevention/in-home safety checks
- Immunizations including influenza and COVID-19 for homebound patients
- Evaluating and assisting patients with individual needs
In 2021, The Monticello Fire Department and Indiana University Health White Memorial Hospital collaborated on the Community Paramedicine Program pilot project. During the 6-month pilot program Monticello Fire Department saw 50 patients and had a 100% non-readmittance rate.
After the program’s success the West Central Region of IU Health agreed to provide first year funding to establish and sustain this program until further funding can be achieved. The commitment by our local IU Health White Memorial Hospital team under the guidance of President Mary Minier and Chief Nursing Officer Renea Smith connected our Community Paramedic Team, FF/Paramedic Chad Walther, and FF/Paramedic Nick Green with the families and individuals that would benefit most from this program.
The Mobile Integrated Healthcare program also received financial support from the Indiana State Department of Health and IU Health White Memorial Hospital. Our Community Paramedic(s) will be working with other funding agencies and grantors to provide necessary support moving forward.
This partnership provides our community with another resource to improve overall community health.
